Flat Tire on the Highway — What to Do
Stay safe first. Then decide: change it yourself or call for a mobile tech or tow.
Safety first. If you're on a busy interstate or don't feel safe, don't try to change it. Pull as far off as possible, hazards on, get out on the passenger side, and call for help.
- Get completely off the road (shoulder or exit). Hazard lights on. If you have triangles or flares, set them behind the rig.
- Check if you have a good spare, jack, and lug wrench. If not, or if it's a dual-wheel or you're not sure how to jack the rig safely — call for help.
- Chock the other wheels. Use the parking brake. Never get under the RV when it's only on a jack.
- Loosen lugs slightly before lifting. Jack on solid, level ground per your owner's manual. Swap tire and tighten in a star pattern.
- Lower the jack, torque lugs to spec, and double-check. Drive slowly to the next safe spot and recheck.
