Generator Dead — Quick Checks
No start or no power? Run through these before you call for a mobile tech.
Carbon monoxide. Never run the generator with rig doors/windows closed or with the exhaust blocked. Ensure good ventilation.
- Basics: fuel? Many gensets run off the main tank but have a separate shutoff. Oil level? Low oil can prevent start on some units. Check the manual.
- Battery: some generators need 12V to crank. If the coach battery is dead, the gen may not turn over. Charge or jump the battery and try again.
- Exercise: if it sat a long time, the carb or fuel system may be gunked. Try the "exercise" mode if you have it. No start after that often means a pro cleaning or repair.
- Starts but no 120V: breaker on the gen or in the panel may be off or tripped. Check both. If power is still dead, the generator head or transfer switch may need service.
- Still dead? Mobile RV techs can test output, clean carbs, and replace parts on-site. Don't tear into the generator if you're not sure — one wrong move can be costly.
Next: Call a mobile tech near you. Generator diagnosis and repair are best left to someone with the right tools and experience.
