Slide-Out Stuck — Manual Override & When to Call
Won't go in or out? Try the manual crank before you hit the road or call for help.
Don't drive with the slide out. If you can't retract it, you need to get it in before moving — or get a mobile tech. Driving with it out can damage the rig and is dangerous.
- Check the basics: engine or generator running (many slides need 12V or 120V)? Battery disconnect on? Breaker for the slide not tripped?
- Look for a manual override. Many slides have a crank or hex socket (often under the slide or in a cabinet). Your owner's manual or a quick web search for your model will show where.
- Use the manual tool to crank the slide in or out slowly. If it binds or won't move, stop. Forcing it can damage the mechanism or the room.
- If something is blocking the slide (ice, debris, trim), clear it carefully. Check seals and tracks for obstructions.
- Motor or mechanism shot? Call a mobile RV tech. They can often fix or bypass at your site so you can travel.
Next: Call a mobile tech near you. Slide mechanisms and motors are best left to pros when override isn't enough.
